Home Health Aide Services in NYC

According to AARP, people turning 65 today have an almost 70% chance of needing some type of long-term care services or support in their remaining years. There is no doubt that with an increase in life expectancy, the need for elder care and demand for home health aide services will also increase.

Home Health Aide FAQs

Home Health Aides (HHAs) are trained caregivers who provide in-home care to people of all ages. Whether you are home recovering from surgery or feeling the effects of normal aging, it can be helpful to have an extra pair of hands around the house.

What are home health aide duties?

Home health aides assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), which include bathing, grooming, dressing, light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation. HHAs also provide companionship in your home or while at medical appointments, neighborhood events, or in the park.

When should you consider home health aide services?

You should consider home health aide services if you are questioning the safety or health of your loved one more often than not. Another indicator is if you are a caregiver and feel overwhelmed or burned out by the effects of what's commonly referred to as compassion fatigue.

Other indicators can include:

  • Unexplained bruising or an increase in injuries or falls

  • A decline in personal hygiene or health conditions

  • Noticeable and unexplained weight loss

  • Lack of fresh food or unsanitary home conditions

  • Your loved one wishes they had someone to keep them company

Paying for home health aide services

Home health aides can be hired directly or through a home care agency. An agency can make the process easier as it will handle background checks, payroll, taxes, and insurance. The agency also monitors and supervises home health aides.
